Explain likely camping hazards and how to anticipate, prevent, mitigate, and respond to them

Discuss the importance of weather awareness and how to prepare if weather turns bad

Show first aid and prevention for common camp injuries/illnesses (hypothermia, frostbite, heat, dehydration, altitude sickness, insect/tick/snake bites, blisters, hyperventilation)

Learn the Leave No Trace principles and Outdoor Code; write a personal/group plan to apply them on your next outing

Make a written overnight trek plan; show your route on a topo map using a compass, GPS receiver, or GPS app

Make a duty roster with assignments for an actual overnight campout

Help a patrol or Webelos unit prepare for an actual campout (roster, menu, equipment, planning, camp setup)

Prepare a warm- and cold-weather clothing list for overnight campouts; explain layering

Discuss footwear choices for different weather and why the right footwear matters

Explain proper care and storage of camping equipment (clothing, footwear, bedding)

List the Scout Basic Essentials for any campout and explain why each is needed

Present yourself and your pack to your Scoutmaster for inspection before an overnight campout

Describe four tent types and their care; pitch a tent with another Scout

Discuss camp sanitation and why water treatment matters; demonstrate two water treatment methods

Describe factors for choosing where to pitch a tent

Compare internal- and external-frame packs

Discuss sleeping bag types, care, and keeping it dry; make a comfortable ground bed

Make a checklist of personal and patrol gear needed

Pack your gear and share of patrol equipment/food for comfort, weight, balance, and quick access

Explain safety procedures for propane and liquid fuel stoves and proper fuel storage

Discuss advantages and disadvantages of different lightweight cooking stoves

Prepare a camp menu with recipes and a food list; plan two breakfasts, three lunches, two suppers; discuss food protection

While camping, cook a breakfast, lunch, and dinner from your planned menu; at least one must be a trail meal on a lightweight stove

Camp a total of at least 20 nights at designated Scouting activities/events
