Visit a Sunday meeting
We meet most Sundays from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at Northwoods, 1572 E Capitol Drive, Milwaukee. Check the calendar to confirm we’re meeting that week, then walk in and ask anyone for the Scoutmaster. Come once or come three times — visiting is free and nobody will chase you with paperwork.Say hello

Get a handbook, meet your patrol, and start on the first requirements. Every one your scout completes shows up on the troop’s advancement tracker, so your family can follow progress from day one.
Troop 79 welcomes boys and girls of all backgrounds, generally ages 11 through 17. Younger kids who are 10 and in fifth grade (or earned the Arrow of Light) can join after March 1st. too. Not sure where your scout fits? Ask us — we’ll sort it out.
Does my scout need any experience?
No. Plenty of our scouts joined without a single night of Cub Scouting or any prior outdoor experience. The program starts from the beginning, and older scouts and trained adults do the teaching.
What does it cost?
There is an annual Scouts America registration fee -- currently $110, and individual outings have their own costs depending on the activity. Campouts are typically $30-$40 for a weekend. Email us and we’ll walk you through the current numbers before you commit to anything.
Can parents stay?
Yes — we’re a family troop. Parents are welcome at every meeting, and many end up attending our campouts and events. We do rely on parents to help with driving, but it is not a requirement. Any parent can join the Troop committee and contribute ideas or more. Siblings scout side by side here.
Financial Challenges?
We want Scouting to be affordable and accessible for every family. Troop 79 provides regular opportunities for Scouts to earn back their registration costs and cover campout fees through quarterly Aluminum Can Drives, and our Annual Christmas Wreath Sales. By participating in these straightforward fundraisers, Scouts can easily offset their costs. In fact, without too much effort, several Scouts in our troop earned nearly $400 this past year.
Can we join partway through the year?
Any time. Advancement is self-paced, so a scout who joins in February isn’t behind anyone — they just start where they are.
