Discuss the five aspects: prevention, protection, mitigation, response, recovery

Chart all five aspects for 10 emergency situations from the pamphlet's list of 21(Do any 10 of the following)

Hold a family meeting; make shelter-in-place and evacuation plans

Develop and practice a home fire escape plan with floor plan and meeting place

Prepare or inspect a family disaster kit for sheltering and evacuation

(Do any one of the following)

Inspect a home for safety hazards using a checklist; discuss findings

Develop emergency prevention plans for five family activities outside the home

Live household electric wire

A structure filled with carbon monoxide

Clothes on fire

Drowning, using nonswimming rescues (including ice accidents)

Show three ways to attract and communicate with rescue aircraft or drones

Show ways to attract ground searchers when lost in the wilderness

Show ways to attract searchers on the water from a disabled boat

With another person, show two ways to move an injured person on improvised stretchers

Describe NIMS and the local Incident Command System (ICS)

Find out how your community manages and trains for disasters

Discuss how a Scout troop can help in an emergency using ICS

Discuss troop duties, training, and precautions for four emergency services

Prepare (or present) a written troop mobilization plan and your part in it

Prepare or inspect a personal emergency service pack; explain contents

Take part in an emergency service project, real or practice

Earn the First Aid merit badge
